Undergraduate Education

MIT undergraduates spend a significant part of their time satisfying core requirements for their home departments. MIT does not have a specific undergraduate transportation degree, but project work in core courses, elective courses, and undergraduate theses can be tailored to a student’s interests, including transportation. Please use the course page to find transportation-related courses that can be used to satisfy specific degree requirements or can serve as electives, capstones, and advanced topics.

Students interested in transportation typically find academic homes in the following departments:

  • Aeronautics and Astronautics

  • Civil and Environmental Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering and Computer Science

  • Materials Science and Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Urban Studies and Planning

  • Sloan School of Management
